![]() I was surprised by Scannable’s speed and conversion engine. When you take a picture with Scannable, the app attempts to automatically detect borders of a document, cropping where necessary to make sure you end up with files that don’t show any backgrounds or external objects (as it’d be the case on a desk). Obviously, this works better if you’re taking pictures on a surface that provides good contrast with the color of the document, but, in my tests, Scannable also performed well when I tried to scan white A4 sheets on a slightly different shade of white. ![]() Scannable also integrates tidily with the ScanSnap scanner to make it easier to get large documents into the cloud.I appreciate the fact that Evernote tried to remove friction and manual user interaction from the Scannable experience. Scannable automatically recognises business cards and can even import the details into LinkedIn (connect your account through the settings screen). There’s one other feature that’s worth mentioning, which is the business card scanner option. Anything saved to your camera roll, meanwhile, shows up as a JPG. If you do use the Evernote export option then your captured documents appear in the selected notebook as PDF files. It’s here than it becomes clear why Evernote decided to spin this out as a separate app it’s fast and functional and strips away all of the unnecessary clutter. ![]() With the exporting taken care of, you can tap Start New to go right back to the image capture stage. If you’re digitising paper documents so you can throw away the originals, then your best bet is either Evernote or Camera Roll, though the Export option reveals a number of useful app alternatives connected through iCloud. Tap More to use one of the integrated iOS sharing options (Airdrop, Twitter and so on). There are a variety of options here: Mail, Message, Evernote, Export and Camera Roll.
